Support & Migration Guide
Step-by-step instructions for migrating safely to a new iPhone or iPad, resetting a forgotten credential with your 12-word Recovery Kit, and managing StoreKit plans.
Upgrading to a New iPhone or iPad
Why Face ID asks for your passcode once on a new device: Apple’s Secure Enclave P-256 keys are permanently fused to your old iPhone’s silicon and never transfer between devices. Keep your Primary Passcode or 12-word Recovery Kit handy before trading in an old device:
- Before wiping your old iPhone: Open Vaultron -> Security & Backup and run the 5-Step Backup Integrity Check, or export a verified
.vaultbackuparchive to Files, AirDrop, or your computer. - Transfer your vault: Use Apple Quick Start device-to-device migration, Private iCloud Sync, or import your
.vaultbackupfile on the new iPhone. - Re-enable Face ID: Unlock once with your Primary Passcode (or 12-word Recovery Phrase) and toggle Secure Enclave Face ID back on.
Frequently Asked Questions
I forgot my PIN, Passphrase, or 5x5 Pattern. How do I recover my vault?
Tap “Recover with 12-Word Phrase” on the Vaultron Lock Screen and enter your 12-word BIP-39 Recovery Kit separated by single spaces. Vaultron unwraps Key Slot 1 locally on your device and lets you set a new Primary credential without data loss. Because Vaultron is zero-knowledge, Treegarden Software Ltd cannot reset a vault if both your credential and 12-word Recovery Kit are lost.
How do Safe Hand-Off Lock and Clean EXIF Export work?
Open any photo, video, or scanned PDF in Vaultron and tap the viewer action menu. Choose Hand-Off Lock before passing your unlocked phone to someone; swiping to adjacent items and closing the viewer remain locked until you authenticate with Face ID or your device passcode. Choose EXIF & GPS to inspect embedded location tags in RAM and share a stripped copy.
How do I restore Pro / Lifetime purchases or avoid double-billing?
Open Vaultron -> Security & Backup -> Manage Plan -> Restore Purchases to synchronize your Apple Account entitlements via StoreKit 2. If you upgrade from a Monthly ($4.99/mo) or Annual ($19.99/yr) subscription to a one-time Lifetime Unlock ($39.99), cancel your recurring subscription in Apple Account Settings (Vaultron displays an automatic reminder banner whenever both are active).
What happens to my files if my Pro subscription expires?
Nothing is deleted or locked behind a paywall. Automatic CloudKit sync and adding items beyond the 220-item Free Vault limit (200 photos/files + 20 videos) pause until renewed, while unlocking, viewing, sharing, and exporting 100% of your existing items remain free forever.
What is the difference between Decoy Vault (Slot 7) and Duress Wipe (Slot 6)?
Entering your Decoy credential (Key Slot 7) non-destructively opens an isolated secondary vault while leaving your Primary Vault intact. Entering your optional Duress credential (Key Slot 6) permanently destroys your local Primary Vault partition, halts iCloud sync, and promotes your Decoy Vault to Slot 0. Configure Slot 6 only when permanent local destruction under coercion is intended.
